In 1948 after the creation of the state of Israel 750,000 Palestinians became refugees and were not allowed their legal right of return. Over 400 villages were destroyed.

Cosponsored by Islamic Society of Milwaukee, Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, Muslim American Society, Peace Action Wisconsin, Jews for Justice and others. This is a call for justice and no more victims. Signs will be provided to keep a focused message.

Meet survivors from 1948, and learn about the tragedy, while listening to Palestinian and Native American elders recount their experiences. Childcare assistance will be provided on-site.

    Expression of Nakba is an international competition ans exhibition to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Nakba; the expulsion and dispossession of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and land in 1948. The Exhibit strives to present the extraordinary narrative of a dispossessed people through a diverse range of expressions that interpret the collective identity, historic struggle, and emotional experience of the Nakba for the Palestinians. The exhibit showcases the winning entries from the competition in addition to a wonderful range of selections in the form of visual arts, poetry, essays, music, video and digital media.

    On 15 May 2008, Palestinians memorialize 60 years of exile and dispossession. Today, Palestinian refugees constitute the oldest and largest refugee population awaiting a resolution. Dr. Abu Sitta will reflect on 60 years of exile, Dr. Wagner will address Zionism and the Palestinians and Mr. Sultany will examine the status of Israel's Palestinian citizens.

    This briefing is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served to registered guests at 11:30 p.m. The briefing and question/answer period will follow from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Registration is required.     Every year Palestinians commemorate the Nakba (the Catastrophe): the expulsion and dispossession of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and land in 1948. More than 60 percent of the total Palestinian population was expelled. More than 530 Palestinian villages were depopulated and completely destroyed. To date, Israel has prevented the return of approximately six million Palestinian refugees, who have either been expelled or displaced. Approximately 250,000 internally displaced Palestinian second-class citizens of Israel are prevented from returning to their homes and villages.

    Join Chicagoland Palestinians and their supporters to commemorate this important occasion and to demand the Right of Return!!!
